The Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Therapy and Medical Rehabilitation is the leading specialized institution of the Republic in the field of internal medicine.

Вся деятельность института в 1919 г. осуществлялась по лечебной линии, так как это было единственное учреждение в Средней Азии с хорошо оборудованным, по тому времени, стационаром.

В 1923 г. он получил название — Институт физических методов лечения им. Н. А. Семашко. При институте была открыта химико-бактериологическая лаборатория. В 1927 г. институт открывает первое в Средней Азии радиотерапевтическое отделение.
